I am building an RV-6 (with RV-7 FWF parts that always need to be modified).
The problem I am now tackling is with fabricating the FAB. The downdraft FI
is offset to the left and I ended up (like many other builders) having to
cut a hole in the bottom cowling where the mixture arm was jamming.
I had seen this on some builders websites and had a brain fart on
manufacturing a smooth blister for this.
I laid-up the glass on the inside of the appropriate size spoon and after
trimming it is perfect and ready for painting!
There surely are many builders having this issue, so I thought I would share
this time saving idea.
Another trick that helped a lot is that I used a thin 30 mm Mylar tape
bonded to the floor with two-way tape, underneath the spar stubs.
This made it very easy to slide the wings in and out during construction,
without scraping the aluminum.
It can stay in permanently, just in case the wings would have to be removed
again in the future.
As a glider pilot I assemble my glider every day I go fly and have used this
tape on the bottom of the spar cavity for years now.
A high density tape would also work.
