I know this was discussed before, but did anyone ever end up with some
decent looking door handles that don't cost $350 each? Ideally I'm
looking for something that will fit with the existing mechanism.

Here is an earlier post on the door handles by Dave. The RV-10 handles
are not on his web site.

Guys,

Dave just made a door handle for the RV10. It fits the existing RV10 handle assembly perfect. Like the other RV canopy handles he makes, it mounts with just 2 set screws. No need to put the large screw in the front.

We put this on tonight to check the fit. I already had the existing holes drilled for Vans handle. We slid the new handle on, torqued both set screws, removed the handle, center punched were the set screws made marks, and put the handle back on. The center punch makes little divots were the set screws go and this handle does not rotate. I tried pretty hard...but it doesn't rotate. Good to go.

Dave is making an aluminum insert that replaces Van's plastic cap. He says it will be a press fit. Just tap it in. I'll post a pic when I get it.

If you are interested in these handles, you can call Dave at 302-437-6087 or email him at his new email address.. dczachorowski(at)comcast.net

Check out the pics below...

PJ,

Dave does in fact make the exterior handles that fit right on to the existing Van's door handle mechanism. He'll even engrave them if you want. He does not have a picture or link to it on his website but trust me, he does have them.

Also, coming soon, will be a bolt on replacement for the crappy square tubing that is currently the inside door handle. Dave is currently working on a set for our RV10 and I'll post some pics as soon as I get them on the plane.

PJ, I myself was disappointed with the stock handle so I set out to make a
better "mousetrap". This pic is just a preview. I am planning releasing the
handles officially the end of next month along with a few other cool
products.
I'm pretty proud of the results, and I've tried to keep the cost of a
complete install and retrofit kits as low as possible. Sorry for the sales
ad but I'm pretty excited about it and felt it may offer some alternative
choices....

Steve,
What happened to the door lock that was integrated into the handle that
you showed back in November?
Do you have an approximate price point?

Hi larry, there is a provision for a keylock in the handle body.(hidden from
view in the pics) The prob is the cylinder will be proud of the door skin. I
left the option up to the builder. And it can be added later..
The second option, which I'm using in this install, is the interior lock to
secure the door. When the billet handle is closed all the way the interior
handle will also close and latch. There is a small hole where I insert a
1/8" pin to "unlock" the door. Keeps it simple and secure, no keys to loose.
I'm still hammering out the numbers with the machinists, and cost will be
based on volume, but this first run will sold at 575 complete with all
hardware and instructions. And the cool thing is it'll retrofit easily into
a flying aircraft...

Yup, those are the handles that I based mine on, also the south African one
is very similar. It's a great design, just needed a few tweaks....i actually
wanted the original manufacturer (who supplies acs) to make a modified
version for me for the rv10, and his price was waay off. He actually told me
he was going to advertise in the trade pubs (sport av, kitplanes, etc) and
start to sell direct to public this spring. (probably at acs price so not to
conflict)
