Hi Terry,

I have the "blown acrylic" option. I can try to measure it tomorrow,
but it came from LP Aeroplastics and I bet they can tell you and give
you a price for a new molded one. I heard (in an LP Aeroplastics forum)
that the key to minimizing cracks is to progressively sand the edges of
the cut windshield smooth right down to a polish. Make sure you take
the extra time to do that on the new one.

Gary

Hey Terry

I just did the exact same thing for the same reason. I used 3mm Lexan and
it worked out pretty good. You'll need something to heat the Lexan so you
can bend the edges. A heat gun won't work. I tried it and it makes the
edges very wavy because the edges get longer when they heat up, but the rest
of the windshield doesn't. Anyway, if you use 3mm, as I did, you'll have a
bit stronger windshield and you'll need help installing it. It's pretty
stiff and difficult to work with. Make sure when you build the new one you
file, sand and polish the edges. That way the stress cracks should stay
away. Also make sure you drill the holes a bit larger than the screws to
allow for expansion and contraction of the windshield with different
temperatures. I know that's what caused the cracks in mine.

Good Luck Terry

Stock LEXAN windshield is .080 inches. I do not believe it is strong
enough - see FAA's bird strike testing -
I recommend rigid plexiglass with at least .125 inches, available thru
Ultravia. Thicker versions up to .250 may still be available thru LP
Aero. I used .187 inche plexiglass which adds about 5.5 Lbs over stock
LEXAN.
Worth it for additional protection in my opinion.
