has anyone used the Rotax 912 “advanced start” module, which is sold
as a PAIR under the part number 881 280 ?

Yes, They are easy to install, but you won't get the full benefit unless you also change out the fly wheel, but it still helps. The fly wheel helps the timing. They are almost a plug and ply except for connecting two wires from the 6 pin plug to your starter solenoid.
