This is an update on the new gear legs we received for our 2003 model Allegro.
The new gear legs are thicker by about 2.5 mm (1/10th inch) than the original gear legs for this model Allegro. The factory says we have to remove .6 mm (.025") form each of four surfaces to make the new gear legs fit the old model sockets and avoid damaging the laminations. Taking it all off the legs might damage the laminations. Sanding off the material from the new legs should be easy enough but removing this much material from the socket areas on the fuselage is going to be no fun at all. I'm also concerned about the upper surface of the socket which appears to be pretty thin.
I do not know when the gear leg design was changed so I can't tell you which serial numbers will require this factory approved modification. Our serial number is #03-202 so the change happened some time after this.
I'll let everyone know how this goes once it is done.
