I made a fairing to that encased the outrigger pivot mechanism and extended foreward. The light is inside this. The opposite wing has the same fairing without the light.

Best Wishes to all for a New Year!

Attached is a front view of my landing lights embedded into the front of
my main gear fairing.

I operate out of a grass strip, have 250 hours on the tach, and have had
no problem with the landing lights taking the landing vibration - what
little there is, of course - since the motorglider alights as gently as
a feather! Wink Wink

My machine is early Classic with foam wings. I don’t have these planned immediately but expect to install same later.
  However, I don’t contemplate breaking any skin on the wings, particularly in the inner half of the wing leading edge for structural reasons. Rather I will consider the tip area because of its lesser stress site and the ease of adding perhaps a retractable module easily built in. Of course it might be impossible if no plan was to add another electric route to the tip(s). Another reason is that heavier wiring is not vital if the time ON is kept very short.
  Recent advances have made it more practical with newer light sources. All my $.02.

Why not make a nice looking teardrop for the aileron inspection plate and use a 55 watt halogen driving light nicely faired in. I've done it once with a Whelen recognition light and once with a $15 Walmart driving light set, and both work fine. Of course you must not have the wires interfere with the controls. I've seen guys put it in the mono and trigear outboard fairings, and if you like to spend hours, cut the leading edge and put in a classical styled headlight in the leading edge. That's if you want to spend another 100 hours making it perfect, sealed on the Leading Edge, vented and maintainable.

On my website I have a picture of one in the cowl, and mine is in a modified flap hinge cover under the fuselage using a standard 55 watt halogen driving light. I chose under the fuselage because there are mounting bolts already built in to the flap hinge bracket, and it just takes a little foam and clay to make a nice looking fairing to go over the bulb assembly and bracket. Then remove and dissolve the foam, clean it up, run a wire or two and be done with it...

Where ever you mount it, think of serviceability and vibration.

Because N128HW ( 2I, too, ate Hotel Whiskey!) is a motorglider I took special precautions to decrease drag as much as possible.

I looked everywhere for the best gear leg to wheel fairing and found nothing - not on the web and not at airshows.

After cogitating, scratching head, drinking beer and facing East, the muses wre enticed and they spoke, 2Make the gear leg bell-bottomed. 2 Thus evolved a simple solution to getting a low-friction but high-strength intersection. The bell-bottomed shape at the end of the gear makes it very easy to afix the wheel fairing. Afix blue foam to the bottom of the gearleg and shape the beel-bottom. Having previously built or bought the fairing, use double-sided tape to stick sandpaper to the fairing where it will connect to the bellbottom. Rub the fairing agains the bottom of the blue foam to get an exact contour. Fibberglass the bellbottom and cut it to a pleasing shape. Carve out or dissolve the blue foam.

Drill through the bell-bottom into the fairing to make screw hole. Afix nutplate to the inside of the wheelfairing wherever there's a screw hole. This set-up makes it easy to afix and disassemble the wheel fairing from the gear leg.

To get a smooth transition afix duct tape around the edge of the bell-bottom. Slather dry miro onto the wheel fairing / bellbottom joint. Let cure long enough to carefully cut arround the bellbottom with a razon blade so you can release the fairing from the bellbottom. Allow to cure completely. Sand down the edges as needed.

P.S. The landing lights are fully aim-able.
