Does everyone with and ELT have a dedicated external antenna?

My ELT antenna is internal. It's attached to an upper horizontal
behind the seat and points down. (Works better upside down that way. )

possible, facing forward as required. There I can get to it easily to switch
it on manually, or unclamp it to take with me (it's made for that). Anybody
care to note where/how their ELT is mounted please?

Mine's on a small panel mounted to the horizontal tubes using Adel
clamps, behind the left seat.

The reason the instructions say to mount the ELT antenna a minimum of 5 ft
away from your com ant. is to reduce the occurrence of a parasitic
resonance. That could reduce the power output of your com. The reverse is
also true if the ELT goes off and the com antenna is too close it will
become a parasitic element to the ELT Ant. Why not mount the ELT ant on top
of the vert stab?
