I have a TIO-540 that only lasted 700 hours but that was because someone slammed into the spinner while tied down. This had adverse effects on the on the crank and $45,000 later I was flying again. Yes… Hit & Run. That is when I decided I needed a hangar. $300K later I have a hangar. Now I understand that my 50’ door is not engineered properly and someday may fall off and hit… my spinner.

I had an IO-540 in my Saratoga and at 1140 hrs it wound up being time for an overhaul due to the spalling on the camshft.

Tim,

Looks like your thread got hi-jacked onto Sub talk. Anyway, I know what you
mean about the fine folks at Aero Sport Power. I had a similar experience
with the O-360 in my RV-8, write-up is here if anyone's interested...

Needless to say when it came time to buy the IO-320 for my RV-3B there was
simply no question where I'd go, and my second engine experience with them
was exactly the same... outstanding!

Cheers,
Randy Lervold
