How were you taught to put the gear down when performing an ILS approach?
for example gear down on localizer established or glideslope interception,
or other.
I've seen people do it both ways and would like to hear of your experiences
or logic.
What are your thoughts for/against either way?
Thanks,
Brian

thanks for all the responses.
FYI, I agree with dropping the gear at GS intercept of FAF.
I'm not sure where/why these people are learning the other way I described.
I still don't see any advantage to doing it their way either.
Oh well, I shall continue to teach my way.
Thanks,
Brian

Please don't forget that controller requests and the size of the airport do make a difference.
If you have to slow down to drop the gear it's pretty offensive to a jet behind you. The runway is probably long enough to support a safe delay in dropping gear in order to honor a request to "keep your speed up". Safety first but. . .

Hi Guys
I have a Piper Lance, I was taught to fly the procedure at 21 inches of
manifold pressure, 2400 rpm at one notch of flaps puts you at 120 knots. When I
intercept glide slope, I drop the gear and the plane follows the glide slope
down with very minor adjust to throttle.
