Rick,
Would you mind telling us the reason AIG gave you for not wanting to pay the claim on the HR you 'owned for about 5 minutes'?
Also, since insurance rates and payment of claims are determined by the underwriters at the insurance company and not the agents such as Nation Air and AUA, I am interested in why you had the problem with Nation Air while AUA wrote your new insurance with the same insurance company with no problem.
Thanks

Dale, don't know if this really bears on your question or not. But, when I decided to switch from AMEVCO, I first tried through the EAA Falcon program - not luck whatsoever getting insurance for my rotary powered RV-6A.
I next tried SkySmith and initially thought I was going to have the same problem. However, once He found out I had publish over a dozen articles on the rotary engine in aircraft and was using proven components (there is one vendor who is well recognized as haven proven rotary conversion products), he ask me to send him a list of the published articles. I am not certain but I believe he gained a comfort level about my knowledge level (and the 300+ flying hours with it) with the rotary to get me standard RV rates. In any case, the results was coverage with a $1000 reduction in premium over AMEVCO.
The latter is conjecture on my part, but I believe if you broker personally believes you are a low or acceptable risk, then he can exert some influence on the underwriter in getting you coverage.
I don't know, but I'll also bet the underwriters pay attention to which brokers they get good or bad risk polices - which one's end up costing them more in claims, etc. and that might have some bearing on why one brokerage might get you coverage and another may not.
But, again just conjecture on my part.
