Well, I went down to Sun n Fun actually to look at other aircraft and see what else was available that would fit my mission. While walking around, I can upon the Lightning display. All the guys were there and readily encouraged me to get in the Lightning Demo aircraft. (This was not available when I visited Shelbyville).

My brother in law and I both got in the airplane and the difference in room caught me by surprise! I not only fit, but had a little space from the top of my head to the bottom of the closed canopy!

This was in an aircraft that had seat cusions in it; but not fat ones, like what I sat in previously.

Anyway, we looked at each other and he said, "you really want to make the Lightning work don't you?" We gave each other the thumbs up and after speaking with Ryan from GL, my Lightning and Engine will be coming shortly. Fortunatly for me GL already had one in the queue, and I was able to grab it!

Thanks to all for your encouragement and help. I am really excited to get started when the aircraft get's here!

Jim!

Thanks Colin, I'm really excited. It's good to put the search process to bed and get on with the project!

I will be putting up a web site to document the build process; URL TBD.

My plans are to participate in the GL builder's assist program, but I will probably do a bit more of the build myself than normal.

I already have a concept working in my head for the panel design.

First step is to study the build manual...

Jim,

Congratulations on your Lightning purchase! Sounds like you are
already thinking about your panel design; I can recommend a good panel
builder if you are interested. Avionics Systems of Leesburg, VA does
excellent work (you can see some of their work at www.avionikits.com) and
they provide great support during the installation and operation of the
equipment. I had a problem with the EFIS in my Chelton system (which
turned out to be a bad hard drive in the Primary Flight Display) but
Avionics Systems provided every possible assistance during the
troubleshooting process. They are great guys to work with!

Congratulations on joining the "club", Jim.
Was wondering if you had abandoned the cause there for a bit.
Good you were able to sit in the demo plane at S-n-F, a little ajusting here
and there makes a world of difference.
Look forward to seeing your build and final product as it comes
together...good luck to you!

Thanks Rick:

The check for the kit goes out to Green Landings tomorrow. I almost
abandoned the Lightning, but gave it one last try at Sun n Fun. Boy, I'm
glad I did!

Thanks Linda. Good to know I will be one of the Lightning crowd! I will be
building my panel myself. With my electrical engineering and computer
programming background, I should be good to go on it.

Plus, the builder assist at Green Landings will make things easier too.

Jim!

LOL!
Jim, you are definitely a man who is thinking ahead......

I can hear it now..."But Honey, we need this EFIS system to put in OUR
airplane"
And the required "Gee Sweetie, OUR Lightning needs to have this beautiful
paint job".
And,"Yes dear, we do need this Interior put in OUR airplane".
Yup, DEFINITELY a smart guy thinking ahead!
Cool

Wow, I wasn't going to push it to the point of the EFIS, but hey, what a great suggestion!
