Has anyone had problems with Van's break/rudder pedals?
They are too narrow for some of the shoes I wear, and
mine are size 10.I don't know how the guys with size 12 make out.
Trying to land a tail-dragger on pavement in a X-wind
is no time to have problems applying brake!!

I am size 11.5-12 on my retreads and don’t have an issue with the Vans rudder pedals in any of my RV-4, 6A, 8A and -10. I ALWAYS keep my feet on the outer corner weldments (duck feet) until its time to apply brakes. I always try to keep my heals on the floor as well. Now most of my history with RV's is with A models but my TW instructor will rip me a new one if I ever hit the brakes while doing anything but rolling straight forward above low taxi speeds.
Keep at it…

My rudder pedals are each 5" wide - I am staggered your shoes could be wider than that.

Perhaps your airplane is non standard.

I installed the attached pictured rudder pedals by Paul Grimstad of Control approach:

They are powder coated with non-skid surface on pedals.

I had a similar (shoe size 10and1/2 wide) problem with my RV6A and
also used the one side of weldment for rudder control. I am now flying
an RV12 and the rudder/brake pedal design on this airplane has none of
the problem mentioned. You might want to look at the 12 setup, and
consider adapting it to your RV. Suggest you discuss with Van's, of
course..

Kelly,

I Googled Paul Grimstad and Control Approach but had no luck finding any listing. Would you happen to know what the website URL is so I can see about getting a set of those pedals for my -9A project?

Thanks,

Jack Hilditch

That would be great. Do you know whether he has a company with a website or does he simply craft the pedals individually for his own use? Thanks very much.

paul(at)controlapproach.com
is the last email address I had for him. I don't think he has a website,
but maybe. I don't know if he produced any for RV's other than the 10,
although likely not much different than overall length of the bar.

Kelly,

I Googled Paul Grimstad and Control Approach but had no luck finding
any listing. Would you happen to know what the website URL is so I can
see about getting a set of those pedals for my -9A project?

Thanks,

Jack Hilditch

I installed the attached pictured rudder pedals by Paul Grimstad of
Control approach:

They are powder coated with non-skid surface on pedals.

I am size 11.5-12 on my retreads and don’t have an issue with the Vans
rudder pedals in any of my RV-4, 6A, 8A and -10. I ALWAYS keep my feet
on the outer corner weldments (duck feet) until its time to apply
brakes. I always try to keep my heals on the floor as well. Now most
of my history with RV's is with A models but my TW instructor will rip
me a new one if I ever hit the brakes while doing anything but rolling
straight forward above low taxi speeds.

Keep at it…

George,

I wear size 12 but the problems I have landing my RV7 are not because
of my shoes...... < ; )

I just need to fly more and practice, practice, practice!!

I just spoke to Paul. He does not quite yet have a web site, although one
is in the works. The email address Kelly supplied is correct, so you could
reach him that way. Paul's cell phone number is: (503) 849-2123. He has
one pedal assembly ready to sell/ship, and is about ready to start the
production of 12 more. Make sure you talk to him about your application,
since these were originally designed for the RV-10.
