				I read many messages about the elevator assembly bol at the end of the elevator rod. I was going to change for an hex bolt to make it easier to remove and install at annual inspection  
 An aviation mechanic told me that the clevis slotted bolt is meant to work in a shear situation, like the assembly we got on our Kitfox, while the hex bolt is for tension load.  
 So, I understand there is a difference between those bolts ane should keep using the recommended clevis shear bolt for that application.  
 Am I wrong with this?

				I would advise using the correct bolt but as it is an experimental you have the option of experimenting with this bolt….at your own peril

 I'm not an A&P but my understanding is hex bolts are used in both shear and tension loads.  Clevis bolts are only used in applications subject to shear stress.
 
 Clevis bolts have the flat slotted head and short threads for a thin AN364 shear nut.  This is needed for the clearance from the fabric at the rear of the tube.
 
 You will note in your kitfox manual that the foreword end of the elevator control tube uses a hex bolt through the rod end connected to the control column.  In the control column a hex bolt on the right side where there is room and a clevis bolt on the left side where the clearance is needed.

				Perhaps I am missing something. I never experienced a bit of angst about
 this bolt. I noticed a lack of room and quickly burned a hole in the fabric
 so I could hit it with a straight screwdriver. Then I used the hole to pass
 the wires for the trim servo out of the fuselage. To reverse the procedure,
 unplug the wires, pass 'em back inside and raise the elevator to line the
 bolt up with the hole.
