I'm posting this on behalf of Tim Houlihan and myself.

Tim plans to attend the Texel fly-in in G-BZTH with me as ballast,
going Friday and returning Saturday (need to be back for commitments
on Sunday).

Just wondering if any of the other people from UK are likely to be
following a similar route to ourselves.

Here's the list of the UK people slated to be arriving at Texel on
Friday, sorted by departure field.

G-RVDG Vans RV-9 David Gill ZZZZ Bicester
G-BZTH Europa T Houlihan ZZZZ Defford
G-CEIW Europa classic SCANLAN EGTU Dunkeswell
G-DDBD Europa XS Trigear Brian Davies EGTD Dunsfold
G-BXDY EUROPA WATTS LADDINGFORD
G-ODJG EUROPA TRI GEAR CHALLIS ZZZZ LADDINGFORD UK
G-JBSP Jabriru (or maybe Esqual) Clive James Ludham
G-IVER Europa XS Tri gear Ivor Phillips EGMD Lydd
G-RVNH RV9A Norman Haines ZZZZ Malmesbury
G-BXUM Europa Dave Bosomworth EGHP Popham
G-RVIO Vans RV10 Hopkinson EGBT Turweston
G-CHOX EUROPA XS TRI-GEAR GOFF MOORE & IAN SWANKIE EGLM WHITE WALTHAM

(I imported to FileMaker Pro the Excel file sent out by the Texel
organisers so I could play with it more easily.)

Any of those folk want to form a gaggle (I won't say formation!) for
part of the trip such as the channel crossing?

We are still thinking about exact route and timing and I guess are
open to suggestions. Timing - neither of us want to get up at an
unearthly hour so we won't be leaving Croft Farm very early, but we
want to arrive at Texel in time for dinner! Route - I think a shorter
sea crossing appeals more than the one via KONAN offered in the PLOG
from the organisers, then more or less follow the coast.

regards

Rowland

My wife and I will also attend the fly-in at Texel, from friday to sunday.
Our Europa is currently at the paint shop, so we will arrive with a
Cessna 172 TDI with the call-sign PH-VZV.

We will bring photo's of course, and plenty of builder stories, and hope
to meet some of you fellow e-mail listers in person.
And last but not least, we're of course curious to your airplanes.

See you the coming weekend,
Ilona Kooistra & Frans Veldman

Just returned with my wife Ilona from the Texel fly-in.

We both have had a wonderfull time over there. It was nice to see so
many Europa's live (instead of via pictures on the internet) and to talk
with some people I have known before only by name.

Thanks to all participants to make this happen!

If there is enough interest, we will post some pictures of the event.

Frans

Thanks to all attending this wonderful flyin. As Frans says, it was a real pleasure meeting all of you, and finally being able to put faces to names!
And of course, those English local beers went down real nicely while having great fun Wink

I am sure that I speak on behalf of all that attended, that Tim Weert, Henk Roelofs and many others have organized a great event, and that GA has been put under the spotlight in very positive and safe way.

Congrats to all of us!

I had an absolute GREAT weekend!

Frans - I echo your sentiments. It was great to meet Ilona & you, and
all the other folk. I've only been to a couple of smaller, more
informal, events on the continent before and maybe resisted going
because I want to finish my own Europa rather than cadging rides in
others' planes.

Tim Houlhan invited me to go with him this time in G-BZTH and I am so
glad I went. I'm only sorry that my commitments here in Cheltenham
today dragged us away on Saturday afternoon.

The organisation and work put in by so many was much appreciated.

Everyone was so welcoming - Tim & I were specially impressed with the
kindness shown to us by Jacqueline Roelofs.

I didn't take as many pictures as maybe I should have but will try to
sort out a few that might be of general interest.

Where to put them?

It seems the Matronics photo-sharing mechanism is not well-suited to
multiple uploads as it's a manual operation.

The EuropaOwners Gallery seems to exist mainly for the building
process; not sure about the etiquette of re-purposing it towards
fly-in events.

Rowland...I think that's an excellent idea...since we already have a
"Flying Europa" category, it would seem reasonable enough to add one
for "Europa Gatherings" or perhaps under a more suitable title. I for
one would find photos taken at what you call "DOTHs" inspiration to
press on to completion.

Fred - looking through the "Flying Europas" album again I note that
there are several sub-albums dedicated to other events and fly-ins.
So, I've added a sub-album entitled "Texel 2009-09 in G-BZTH" and put
some of my pictures there. As usual after any trip I can think of
many pictures that I did _not_ take, so some aspects are not
represented (and of course we left on Saturday before the BBQ), but
these may give some of the flavour. Hope you find them appropriate.

To anyone who was looking for those pictures, Steve (I assume) has
made a new top-level album called "Europa Gatherings and DOTHs" and
my sub-album is now in there.

If you're not sure about how to get to the EuropaOwners Gallery, here
are the full instructions:

In your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome or
whatever) enter the following in the URL entry box:

http://www.europaowners.org/index.php

When the page opens, click on the "Gallery" icon at the top.

When the next page opens, click on the top album in the list:

"Europa Gatherings and DOTHs"

You should now see (among others) the sub-album called "Texel 2009-09
in G-BZTH", so click on that to see a list of photo thumbnails. The
individual photos can be examined in more detail (2 successive
levels) by clicking on the thumbnails.
