Having fitted things as per the book I find I have a 1 to 1.5'' gap between the rads and the lower cowling. Do I need to block this off thus directing all the airflow through the rad then the oil cooler or should I wait and see how the temps read in flight first?
I would be interested to have reports from those currently flying.
Thanks

Mike,
Take my word for it... Block it off. All of it! If I had mine to do
over I'd cut the whole dog box off and re-do the intake. Just cant talk
myself into a cowl re-paint in the middle of the flying season. Maybe
this winter.
Someone shared a drawing with us on the new cowl a few months back. The
cowl had a lower and further back intake closer to the radiators..

Mike and all,

A correct cooling duct must have a carefully curved shape an NO air leak
whatsoever.

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> By all means block the air below the oil cooler, not the radiator... You will be well served to lower the oil cooler as far as possible (2 inches is normal, but each cowl is different) to get best cooling. My preference is to make a 1.5 inch sheet of .016 stainless full length across the oil cooler. Bend it 3/4" to form a ramp to the bottom of the cowl. It will flex to make a great seal.

I kind of worked it the other way. I glued a strip of trunk sealing
rubber, left over from an auto restoration, to the bottom of the water
radiator and lowered it enough to mash the rubber tight against the
cowl, then filled the sides of the cooler with foam and siliconed them
in. Nothing gets past without first going through the cooler. Temps
will go up on hot days, but nothing above the limits...

Jeff - Baby Blue... Back together and flight testing this weekend.

PS Fred: Fairing tests will be complete, though not permanently
installed, for Rough River, barring any problems with the bird...
