This could have been a OK April fools joke had it been on the first, but
this is real and I am the fool!

Innocent enough task at hand, drill and fit the Torque Tube plastic
spacers.

To take measurements a extra set of hands would have been helpful, nobody
around.

OK got all things in position after some fiddling, just bout ready to take
measurement, and I feel something in my eye. OK just close left eye and
squint hard for a second to get measurement. Just bout there, and things
go further downhill. I am working very close to rear bulkhead, although
BID layups were looked at and sanded, there was 1 single BID spire that
decided it wanted to live between my right middle fingernail and the soft
flesh below. I knew what happened but figured I could still get
measurement. OK 1 more painful squint and I get measurement.

Things get worst, trying to remove my middle finger gently does nothing
more than break off the spire under my fingernail. A painful squint was
not good enough for surgery to stop pain in fingernail. OK take a walk to
bathroom 10 hangars away and across taxiway. Get to bathroom and just not
enough light. Back to my hangar and get a bright light, back to bathroom
and easily get out 1 eyelash. Still pain? After fishing out another
eyelash with the fuzzy end of a cardboard match (this works great by the
way) my eye is free of debris but red and painful. Back to hangar and
manage to surgically remove spire, but not after causing a bit of trauma
under fingernail.

OK finish up spacers and home I go. After filing and sanding the starboard
spacer to get full contact with the bushing, I needed to make a aluminium
spacer. No biggie, crank up the lathe and make some chips. After using a
cutoff tool to remove my .035" spacer decide to smooth out the cut off
side. Things begin to get even worst. My left eye is still red and sore,
and my right middle finger still hurts. It ends up that I am right handed.
The easiest way to sand my spacer is to use right middle finger, right
fore finger and right thumb. I could not do it with left hand. I tried
double sticky backing as a holder, no good. I just took a bit of pain as
my middle finger was the real tool of the hour. Every agonizing stroke
took off some nail.

OK nice job and pain was no worst than before sanding. Little did I know I
sanded away my nail so it was now exposing the small trauma area.

Things get worst. Since my hands were covered with cutting fluid, over to
the kitchen sink and crank up very hot water, wet my hands and get them
good and hot and get ready to wash up with Palmolive dish-washing
detergent that is good at cutting grease and soft on your hands. IT IS NOT
SO SOFT ON TRAUMA UNDER YOUR MIDDLE FINGERNAIL. I put some on my hands and
OOOOWWWWW, never had this much from soap, ever. I shake my right hand
wild, and although I had glasses on, somehow a glob managed to promptly
direct itself, missing my glasses into my left eye. OOOOWWWW, OK cold
water to flush out eye, but first need to get dish-washing detergent soap
off my hands. OOOOWWWW hurts even worst, the cold must have aided sucking
soap direct deep into wound. Being a pilot, if you do something and it
causes a adverse reaction, reverse what you did. Hot water did nothing.

Can't make this stuff up!

In my 48 years "I" have on occasional stuck my middle finger at life, this
is the first time "Life" stuck my middle finger.
