David

I don't think that Russ mentioned you by name. Thanks for clearing my suspicion.

John Williams mentioned at Monument Valley that you had asked him to inspect your airplane. He said he went to see your plane and spent alot of time looking it over. He then gave you almost a full page of things he thought need to be fixed. John W was a bit offended that you didn't fix any of the issues. Would you please pass that list on to the person you sell the plane to.

Yes John W. lived near me and I ask him to come by during my building process I was excited to have him look my plane over. When he saw the plane he was excited because he thought it looked like it could be an <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Oshkosh award winner. That got me excited and I ask what do I need to do to get it into award winning shape and boy did he let me know! I was shocked at the length of his suggestions C when I saw his list I felt a deep sinking feeling C but when I started reading though them with him he assured me that none issues he found were show stopping safety concerns but just the way he’d do it. As I think on it what a nice guy!
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I certainly hope that I didn't offend John W C as you state C he never lead me to believe that I had offended him. Since I looked up to him as a Kolb leader and appreciated the time he spent teaching me I did feel obligated to report my status on the list he gave me to him and I also posted something about it on this list. I told him I got almost everything done. I don’t know how John W. would of known what I got done on the list because he didn’t re-inspect my plane C he must have been going off what I told him.

As far as your safety concerns; I got the kit partially built from a lady named Lisa Turner. She’s a legend in some EAA circles; she is an EAA building instructor so I felt really good about the construction done before I got it. Her husband owned the hangar where it was built his name is Jerry Stadtmiller he owns the top Stearman airplane restoration shops in the Nation. He assisted her while she built it. Lisa had one EAA condition inspection before I got it. I had three EAA inspections during the building process and I have their signoffs. But just to be extra safe I had them done by different members and showed each one what the other members comments were. And if that wasn’t enough I had John W come by and take a look. And if that wasn’t enough I had the president of my local EAA chapter Mel Asberry (a legend in some EAA circles) who’s also a FAA examiner do the last EAA condition inspection.

Then I had the FAA inspection I showed him the list of all the comments from the EAA members and the list from John W! The FAA examiner was very impressed and very comfortable by the amount of attention to detail that went into a plane that was so simple. So altogether it’s had 4 condition inspections C plus one by John W plus the FAA inspection totaling six. But if safty is your concern you don’t have to take my word for it call them or email them and or check for yourself.

I’m no legend but I assure you this plane has been critically inspected in all stages of the build process by legends; John W. C Mel Asberry C Lisa Turner C Jerry Stadtmiller C and Lucky from Air Salvage.

While I don’t consider myself an airplane inspector when it comes to someone else’s plane I am confident enough to fly mine from Texas to Monument Valley C Utah or London C Kentucky with my wife.

If you don't mind I’m not going to participate in getting involved in saying what he said and that type of behavior C especially someone that is so respected and no longer with us.

Sorry I don’t have the full list of inspectors for you but I’ve forgotten their names and I’m at work! But if you’d like them send me an email and I’ll get them to you.

If after you’ve contacted these people and inspected the plane and are still don’t feel comfortable then don’t buy it. After all it is the pilot in commands responsibility and if you don’t like it don’t fly it.
