Does anyone have photos or specs on the CH-750?
Any hints on kit availability timeframe?
With the extended wing I heard about, it seems similar to the ICP Savanna knockoff.

Kit's should be show cased at the upcoming Oshkosh show. We are being lead to believe that the plans will also be offered, but no one knows for sure. Attached are the only two known photos of the plane taken at the Zenith plant.

Bob

That's pretty nice! Do you know what the planned engine is? Is it still a Rotax, or do you need something bigger?

FWIW the firewall outline is the same as the 601. So (by intention) any
firewall package for the 601 will work on the 750.

The 750 they are flight testing has an O-200 in it.

When I was up to the rudder workshop in May '07, I saw an O-200 on
what looked at first glance like a 701 fuselage but just a little
bigger. Someone told me it was a CH750.

I flew from Seattle (by way of San Jose - darned work!) to attend the Factory Open House on Saturday and got to see the 750 prototype fly as well as the first "production" model under construction that's slated for an official unveiling at Osh Kosh.

It's got a lot of "improvements" over the 701, but is not intended to replace the 701, but more to add a mid-size version for larger folks or those looking at auto-conversions or certified engines.

Being a big guy (6'-4" with shoes and 240#), I found the 750 much more fun to get in and out of. The 750 has more windows, tip forward seats, more leg room, wider cabin, center console with 601-style control yoke and an enlarged baggage area behind the seats.

It is generally larger but has the 701 look and feel and shares many construction methods, but seems to be a new plane from tip to tail. It's got a bigger landing gear and sits much taller than the 701. The production model has a very cool rounded extrusion for the fuselage corners that really smooths out the look. The jury struts have a new mounting method and the instrument panel has been redesigned for better visibility on approach (it's narrower and allows you to see past it looking forward and down. It will be the quickest building kit yet due to the advanced CAD layout and the CNC produced parts.

Jon Croke was interviewing Caleb extensively and should have a report in an upcoming Zenith Newsletter.

No news on the eventual availability of plans, but I'm hoping they have more to say at the roll-out at Osh Kosh.

If any of my pictures turned out, I'll post a couple later tonight.

Brady - I'll see you at Arlington.

I specifically attended the open house to see how close I came in my efforts to upsize the 701 to 110% for space (I'm 6'4" with shoes and 240#), LSA capacity and to fit the Corvair that I'm building. I did all of this a couple of years ago and got Chris Heintz's blessing to my mod's.

I'm proud to say that I'm pretty close to what the 750 turned out to be. I really liked the new panel design after sitting in the cockpit and seeing the difference it made in forward vision. They also used the 601 firewall to take advantage of existing hardware for the larger engines on the 601.

I feel pretty good about continuing my scratch-build and will certainly adopt the new panel and the taller gear when I get there. I'm awfully tempted to buy that new corner extrusion and pay to ship it to Seattle - we'll see.

Hello there,

On ZACīs website says that this airplane will never be available in kit, Is it still true?

http://www.zenithair.com/news/ch750.html

Currently there are no plans for the CH 750 aircraft to be offered as an aircraft kit or plans (blueprints) for amateur builders. Heintz has stated that the larger CH 750 aircraft is a new aircraft model, and not a replacement to the very popular STOL CH 701 aircraft - which can be built from complete kits, component kits or from plans-only:

It was the 701 that first caught my eye when I decided to build an airplane.

But I'm a tall guy, and I figured that I had better find one to sit in before making a commitment. So when I sat in a 701 at OSH a few years ago, it was obvious that it just wasn't meant to be... Crying or Very sad

I looked over to the 601 that was sitting a few feet away. To make a long story short, I've now got a nearly complete 601 in my garage... Very Happy

But had it been a 750 sitting there when I was first looking at an airplane to build, things may have been different.

Alberto - The plane will definitely be available as a kit according to Caleb at Zenith - who is working the design. I could not get a firm answer on plans or even the timing of kit production.

They are working feverishly to get the production unit together for Osh Kosh and will then work on the documentation and production schedule. My guess is that they'll be flooded with orders at Osh Kosh, so you may want to see if they have a waiting list for kit buyers right now.

If you're a tall guy and are on the fence about the 701, it'll be worth the wait. I talked to a guy who's selling his 701 (complete from FW back) because he is a Corvair fan and likes the fit better.

It will certainly be more expensive than the 701 as it is much more complete production-wise, is larger and has .020" skins.

Thanks Chris, thatīs good news. As soon as I get my XL finished Iīll place and order for the CH750, I was about to order the tail kit for a 701, so I better stop and wait until the new kit comes out.

Have fun!

Chris,
Thank you for the pix. Did anyone talk about the performance figures? I know it is LSA compliant or is meant to be, and that it is built to handle larger HP engines using the 601 firewall. Will it be faster, or the same with the same STOL performance?

Chris-
Please do come by our booth at the show I would be very interested in talking to you about your 701 Mods and Corvair installations.

I am always interested in what others are up to!

We will be running our 701 rear starter FWF in a few days.
we will have it running at the show. along with a plethora of other products.

I am looking forward to seeing the Zenith booth this year too! I hope they will have the prototype there.

Take care I have to get back into the shop!

I heard Sebastian say that it can be built as a 1320# LSA or up to #1450 as an Experimental Amateur built.

They had no posted spec's yet, but I don't expect much if any improvements on speed, though, although it's likely to have strut fairings standard.

If you built it for the larger gross, then it probably could by flown as an LSA with floats and a 1420 gross weight.

Enthusiasts,

I also attended the Zenith Open House last Saturday and appear in the background of some of the pictures.
I spoke at length with Caleb about the CH-750, and here is what I put down in my notes after the fact,
so as you know consider the source, with some items subject to minor changes on the production model.

* Skins are increased from 0.016 inch to 0.020 inch for oil canning, although also noted benefit of less hanger rash & dents
* Vne = 125 mph, with manuevering speed at 105 mph, & proto-type cruises 95 mph
* Approach with flaps 48 mph, and without flaps 55 mph, flaps will be electric
* Production model will have streamline aluminum struts, for a cruise increase of greater than 5mph
* Cockpit (elbow) width with bubble doors will be about 49 inch, seats will be in-flight adjustable
* Proto-type had VGs on elevator
* Proto-type with 0-200 had 72 inch prop with 10 inch ground clearance
* Fuel capacity is 24 gallons
* Empty weight of proto-type about same as 601XL equipped with same engine (no specifics given)
* Production model is "expected" to be in flying condition at Oshkosh, significant challenge with only 5 weeks remaining
* Production model will have best fit & finish ever
* All formed parts will be matched hole at pilot size!

Keep the dirty side down,
Eric
