There are a lot of talented, and enterprising builders on this list, and I was wondering if anybody had ever considered building a Zenith 711, by adding a second, albeit shorter wing on the bottom of the 701 making it into a biplane.

I am not an engineer, aeronautical or otherwise, but I am thinking that with this type of modification, we would no longer be having any discussions regarding the strengthening, or lengthening, of the wings " a la " 750.

I would also expect that there would be an improvement as far as the glide ratio is concerned, not to mention the wing loading and increasing the gross weight.

As I mentioned previously, I am in no way an engineer, so all comments or ideas, negative or otherwise, would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I have just completed, and painted my work table. A big thank you, to all of you who have taken the time, to send me your recommendations and tips. I built it slightly wider ( 62" ), so that there would be enough room to store the 12' sheets flat on the two lower shelves, making it easier to manipulate them by myself, since I work, and live alone.

My first thought: how would you get into the 711? There's no where to position the low wing except below the door. To make the cockpit accessible, you would need the root section of the low wing to be strong enough to climb into the cockpit. That means additional structure = added weight = poor performance.

I suppose anything is doable, but I'm not sure you would have any benefit to such a mod. That's just my two cents!

Hey nice table!

As for the biplane, of course you can make anything you want and you could even make it work well. But remember that it will no longer be a CH701. I would start from scratch before I'd modify the airframe that much. I have to admit a STOL biplane would be really cool.......

Just my $.01... not worth the full price Wink
