Barnstormers has a 701 for sale for $29,900 that claims to be 90%
finished with engine and instruments. Thats less than I paid just for
the parts!

I'll be inspecting it on Monday. The engine is a 912ULS from 1998 with only
6 hours on it. It probably doesn't have the slipper clutch installed
(although a retrofit is available from Rotax for about $1300 in parts).

Hi Craig,

Did you inspect the 1998 701 yet?

I am curious as to whether the gross is 900 lbs or 1100 lbs?

Do Not Archive,

If you are referring to the 701 in New York state listed on Barnstormers
(there is a 1998 701 in MA also listed) I did more than inspect it - I
bought it. Although the 912ULS is from 1998 the 701 is from 2003.

The 912 needs the slipper clutch, valve spring retainer and improved starter
service bulletins and sprag clutch circlip service instruction so I'll be
dropping it off at LEAF in Wisconsin as I drive from NY to UT. Then I'll
stick the 701 in the hanger with my two 601XL kits and start working on
prepping the 601s for sale.

Here is one way of describing my reasons for switching from a 601XL to a
701:

Hi Craig,

Yes, I was referring to the 701 you were referring to... Smile ... in your message. I assumed (wrongly) that the engine AND the kit were 1998.

Welcome to the world of 701.

I am building my second 701 down here in Alabama....
