Dear Jeff,

I might suggest the weight and balance you will need to do upon completion will determine if you need any additional weight either forward or aft, I am not aware of anyone I have worked with indicating the need to add any ballast. Remember the 801 has a 1000# useful load and if you have remained within the weight limits for the engine you will probably be in the ballpark to start with.

Haha. Well that's kind of a maybe you will, maybe you won't answer ... Smile

With my Kitfox I never heard anybody say, while I was building it, but every single builder I ever talked to after I finished mine who had the
same engine I did - all admitted they were real close to edge balance
wise, so at least if you are building an IO-240B based Kitfox, you
"should" install a ballast box in the tail. Which is something I wish I
had known before I closed in the tail.

Which is what I'm trying to figure out with the 801.

SO let me re-phrase that - If you have built an 801, with an O-360
did you find a need to add ballast to the tail when you finished to get
an acceptable balance?

If the answer is no, then I'll probably not add a ballast box. Smile

Regards,
Jeff

Ok, maybe I mis-read your reply. It looks like you didn't have to.

Anybody else have to add ballast in an 801?

Thanks,
Jeff

When it was all done and said, I didn't need any balance adjustments with the battery under the seat as called for.
