I just fired up my 912 UL in a Zenith 701 for the first time yesterday. All went well, except my VDO tach was not working. Does anyone know what the correct DIP switch settings are? I apparently had the wrong ones set in the tach, or at least that is where my trouble shooting will start. Also, I taxied around for maybe about 10 minutes. In this time the oil temp came up to about 140 degrees but I got no reading on the CHT gauge. Is this normal, or is my CHT gauge not working? It to is the standard VDO CHT gauge. I must say the Rotax 912 is a smooth running engine.

It takes a while for the coolant to heat up. I would assume your CHT
sender and gauge are still working. Yes it is a smooth engine! I find
that if I very carefully balance the carbs mechanically, it will be very
close to perfectly balanced when you put the guages on, and it runs very
smoothly!!!

Hi Jack,

Your cht should be working and the cht raises quickly. So if it's not working check your connections. Set the idle on your new engine between 1750-1800 rpm.
140F on the oil temp at idle is probably about right. You should see 120F or above before take off. 266F cht temp. is max for the 912uls. Each engine differs some and so does each person's gages. Hopefully your oil temp. will be between 190F-230F when you are at cruise rpm.
Cruise rpm should be between 4800-5200 rpm. This is it's best torque and the engine should run cooler.
