For those in Jack Frost's territory,
I was inspired by the builder who's insulated coffee was
freezing in 30 Min to share my setup.
See forwarded e-mail. If the pictures don't come through,
someone let me know please.

I hope there's a CO detector somewhere in there... Those heaters tend
to eat up all the oxygen in the room, and also produce CO if not
operating perfectly....

Yes I have a CO detector. I knew that you guys would be
watching for that. That's why I take the air from outside
the work area so I'm not using the breathing air for
heating.
Thanks for the heads up.

If he doesn't respond should we phone his wife and have her check the
garage floor?

I have a well insulated, drywalled 24x32 free standing workshop, with insulated 16 and 9' overhead doors. My Dyna Glo 23,000 BTU heater works very well, and I haven't had issues with smell or CO. It doesn't heat up nearly as quickly as he blast type torpedoes, but I don't have to listen to it or smell it. It's a snow day today (no school) so I've been in the shop all day. It's 68 degrees in the shop and about 10 degrees outside. I used 20 gallons of K1 last winter,(it was pretty warm) and I've already use 20 this winter (it's not warm! -0 recently). Anyway, I highly recommend the heater, it cost $99.00 at Tractor Supply last fall. I've seen it at Home Depot for a little more.

Interesting tidbit...
When I was building my -10, I had 2 long winters (and spring/fall times)
that I worked in my 22x24 garage with a 110,000 btu kerosene torpedo
heater. I also have a CO monitor. I also regularly run it in my
hanger, which I have recently sealed up a lot better than before.
I have read and know the rules on supplying incoming fresh air...but
for most of the time, I haven't followed them. My CO monitor also
isn't a normal household one, but one that's more sensitive, and
reads lower in quantities of ppm.
Interestingly (to me), I was able to run that darn heater all day long
with no ventilation and never have a problem (when using real kerosene).
The heater was always well-maintained though.
Then one day we had the power go out for a few hours. I ran my
generator in the same garage, with the main garage door cracked a couple
feet, and the back door open. After an hour, my in-house (not even
in garage) CO meter was beeping, and we hit 100ppm in the basement,
and it was even accumulating upstairs.
This taught me that those torpedo heaters really aren't a big deal
if you monitor them and use them in confined spaces, if you keep
them maintained well and get a good burn of the fuel. But, a normal
engine is far dirtier from a CO (and probably toxic) perspective.
As a side note: The day I covered my hanger ceiling with insulating
foam board, I ran my kerosene heater on #2 (or was it #1) diesel,
because kerosene wasn't around. It didn't take long before the two
of us felt a bit queasy and had headaches. I did ventilate it
at that time (a long time ago now), but we didn't have a CO meter
back then. So this adds to the story in that I now never burn
anything but quality kerosene.
I've always loved those heaters for their really good directional
heating that makes me cozy warm in a few minutes. I think they're
great. Do respect them and use a CO meter, but if you do that,
I think for the most part you have little to fear.
