Hi Ed,

Suggestions: Glare from the sun is your enemy. Any bright color will reflect
into the cockpit and brighten other things (like your shirt). The shirt
will then be reflected in the glass instrument faces. You will also see the
surrounding seats and interior on your instruments.

I've heard the best cockpit color for reading the instruments is flat black,
but it isn't very pretty. Now I know why.

That said...My interior is medium gray. The panel is black with matte clear
finish over the top to reduce reflection. The hardest thing to read is the
396 GPS with the large flat surface. Looks like a mirror when the sun is
out (which is almost always when I'm flying).

I am having similar reflection problems with Anywhere Map. Although I
am still experimenting I think the solution is to angle the instrument
face to reflect the gray upholstery instead of the sky. Of course It
would be more difficult with instruments that are mounted in the panel.

A friend and I both used "Tremclad Textured" grey in a spray can on our RV
panels and are happy with it. I put it on top of an automotive etching
primer. I can send you a picture if you are interested to see what it looks
like. I believe I bought it in Canadian Tire.

I am ready to paint the instrument panel and would like a soft
gray semi-gloss or matte finish. Any suggestions? Ed.
