Hi Troy,

You are right, the plenum does not fit in the Classic if you install the Skydrive carb heat. Well it didn't with ours anyway.
We removed the bottom of the plenum with a hacksaw and restuck it together with bid so that the body of the plenum was bought forward enough to leave an inch between it and the firewall. The plenum vibrates with the engine and there are wires etc going across the firewall so we needed a reasonable gap.
The Skydrive Carb heat is very effective and in Scotland the winter is damp (100%)and the temperature low. So far we have not had any hint of carb icing in spite of flying in ideal conditions for it. I am now sticking to the rule of CHT above 85 degrees.
The other day was a good example of how I now think about Carb Icing.
I was cruising at 6000ft in these kinds of conditions and the CHT dropped to around 85 degrees. A wee bit close to the carb icing range. There were some ominous looking mountains below which were not conducive to forced landings so I changed the Airmaster Prop Controller to Manual and coursened the prop to make the engine do that little bit more work in order to raise the temperature. The CHT temps rose to 95 degrees, Oil temp 110 degrees and I felt comfortable above the carb icing range again. IAS settled at 139kts which when corrected was giving me a whopping 153kts at 5000rpm. It really was going that quick because the GPS agreed. Back in the circuit having descended with the pitch set to climb/descend I kept the cowl flaps( our own mod.) closed and the CHT never went below 90 in spite of the decent.
What a cracking little aeroplane this is. I love it.
The joys you have in store.

Cheers
