Hi All,

I remember one time back in the 1990's I was flying my original firestar with a 377 on it. I was going to a fly in breakfast. I was late and didn't do a pattern like I usually do. Just strait out up and away.  I didn't throttle back much trying to save time.

A couple minutes out the rpm started to go down. I looked down and the gauges were hot.

YIKES! Without blinking I shoved the enriched on. The temperatures came down right away and the engine ran normally.

It continued to run normally to the breakfast and back. When I got home later I took off the exhaust manifold. The pistons showed no damage.

Whew! I got a break that day. I think the enriched helped to save it. Could've scored the pistons.

That never happened again.
