Hi guys,

I am getting ready to send all my hoses in for replacing on my YaAK 52TW with the M14 PF engine. I decided at the same time to have the hose to the carbuertor cut and AN fittings installed on one side to accomodate the JPI 450 fuel scan flow transducer.

Can anyone tell me what size AN fittings to tell the shop to install? Also can anyone tell me the proper tranducer to order when I order the instrument? I will try to reach out to JPI also.

Any comments or suggestions or even thoughts on other instruments are appreciated.

Thanks

Todd

I installed the JPI on my M14P as well.  You will love it.
The hose shop should use a similar size to the existing metric fittings on either end.  They

will tell you what they used.  You will need two fittings in the JPI transducer to match what they put on the hose.
I purchased two new fittings.  One is the banjo fitting on the fuel pump.  The other was the inlet to the carb.  Both are AN.   Used a solid pipe AN on both sides and mounted to the pump outlet.  Made one new hose to the carb inlet.
See attached photos.  The one photo is looking up from the bottom.
JPI will know what you need for a transducer.  They will confirm your fuel burn max flow.
Feel free to call me if you have any questions

I don’t why I received this email other than by the sheer luck of saving you from an inflight failure of your fuel system.
Sensors and transducers should never be mounted to the engine because there are harmonics that will cause these vibrate and break the fittings.
Please follow the instructions provided from JPI and Floscan— in six inches of straight hose.
We install them in between the fine filter and the carb.
Taking the fuel flow reading from the fuel pump will give an inaccurately high fuel consumption because fuel is constantly being returned to the header tank from the fuel sphere.

Mark, Cliff

I really appreciate the replies, and Mark I definitely want to talk to you with some questions.

Mark, I am curious what kind of airplane you have, as by reading your post it sounds like your line from the engine driven fuel pump goes to the carb? Is this correct? Mine goes from the engine driven fuel pump to the fire cock with fuel filter. From here my plane is plumbed to the compensation tank then to the fine fuel filter then finally to the carb. I am planning on putting the tranducer in the line from the fine fuel filter to the carb ( as suggested by Cliff). Because it is very easily accessible and what Cliff replied makes sense.

Also you claimed you purchased two fittings, a banjo fitting for on the fuel pump, and inlet to the carb, and you say these are both AN fittings? Can you tell me where you got these, as I will be going from a banjo on the fine fuel filter to the carb, and if AN fittings fit here I can just get a hose fixed up locally.

Thanks again for the replies. Mark I will call you as I would love to know more about what you installation and the proper interfaces to use on the M 14.

Todd

Todd.
My experience is not going to be helpful.
I fly a CJ6.   Your plane and mine are plumbed differently.  I should have realized that. My install is very simple.
I can say that when I fill the plane I am always within 1/2 gallon of fuel used in the FS450.
Cliff will be your best resource.
