George

As your question implies, it is very important to determine what materials were used so that an appropriate repair can be made. Assume you checked the Aircraft logbook and there is no documentation re the covering process?

I recommend you call the Consolidated Aircraft Coatings folks. They hold the STC for both Poly-fiber (formerly Stits) and Ceconite and can walk you through figuring out if one of these products was used. Speak with the experts.

Though similar, Poly-fiber and Ceconite use different products for application. Each offers two fabric weights (Light weight usually used for small patches). Additionally, each has two options for the finish coating which dictates the repair process.

You can go to their web site and download the manual for each. Their manuals simply layout the process and products used. There is a chapter detailing how to make repairs for each.

There ARE OTHER products that may have been used! Being Experimental, the builder could have used ANYTHING.

Cheers

Both my Model IV and Series 7 Kitfoxes use PolyFiber.

Hello Frank,

Thank you for your reply. I find it a good idea to contact Consolidated
Aircraft Coatings as I understand that they are experts on aircraft
coatings. Thank you very much for your advice.

Cheers
