Dennis can chime in here but I thought both engines used the 14mm 7022 plug.  I run an M14P using 7022.

As Mark has written – BPR6HS – of course made by NGK. Excellent plugs with the additional advantage of being long-reach so giving good flame propagation inside the cylinder.

Yes sir. The 7022's are the same plugs that come in my kit. Gap at .020 and don't forget the anti seize compound on the threads. Also, if you have CHT probes on the any spark plug, remove the factory washer before installing with a CHT probe. Torque to 22-23 Ft. Lbs.

Again, I'm sure that it is the BPR6HS. Although the M 14 P delivers more power, the combustion issues in the cylinder are effectively the same.

I’ve never seen a specification for the heat range for either engine. 15 yrs ago when I first started experimenting with a compatible automotive spark plug, I looked at the condition of the original Russian and Chinese plugs and determined by sight and by comparing to plug manufacture photo descriptions, they were a very cold plug. As you already know, when the ceramic around the firing element is very black and sooty, especially on the upper cylinders, it usually indicates a cold plug. So we began to experiment with Champion 14mm spark plugs that had the same thread length (reach). When the Champion plugs became difficult to source, we crossed them to NGK. That was the NGK BR6HS.

When you look inside a cylinder with either a Russian, Chinese or equivalent auto plug, every one of them had the electrode above the surface (inside the spark plug hole) and nowhere near the surface of the combustion chamber. To obtain complete combustion, the spark plug electrode should at the very least, be flush with the surface of the combustion chamber. Then, when a CHT probe or two as on the rear #4 plug on an M14 on a Yak 52, the firing tip is pulled even further away from the combustion chamber surface.
We experimented with various heat ranges. On NGK plugs, the higher the number (as in BR6HS) the colder the plug. If I remember correctly, we started with “8’s”. They were way to cold as evident by the color of the ceramic and the harder starting. We tried 7’s then 6’s. 6’s gave us the best starting and burned much, much better as evident of the ceramic around the firing element.
A few years ago I started experimenting with the extended tip plug because of the oil collecting in the lower cylinders. The theory was, why not do what Lycoming and Continental do when cylinders are burning more oil. That is, they recommend and extended tip spark plug such as an REM37BY, which has an extended tip. The result was the plug we use and recommend today, the NGK 7022/BPR6HS. The “P” is the extended tip and the heat range is the “6”. It burns clean as evident by the color of the ceramic around the firing tip.
Because of the original piston to cylinder wall clearances, both the M14 and Housai engines were designed to consume oil. What we’ve come up with is a spark plug that works much better in these engine cylinders at the heat range we’re using.
So you ask, does it meet the manufacturers heat range spec? Quite frankly, I don’t know. But what I do know is I think we’ve significantly improved the operation and longevity of the ignition system on these engines while reducing the operating cost.
With well over a thousand of the automotive conversation kits sold all over the world (including Russia) in the last 14+ years, I suspect we may have hit on something that benefits the community.
