Evening all; the left brake pedal on my toe-braked tri-gear has gradually started to use more of its travel. Tomorrow I’m going to investigate this (check for leaks, pad/disk wear, master cylinder seals), but as it’s circa 5 years since I last changed the fluid, I cannot recall the type to use! Is it LHM or DOT4?

Thanks in advance

I think it depends on which brake gear it is....Matco or Jamar.... could be either.

Laughing C’mon Steve, you could at least have told me which way around they are! I have Matco wheels and callipers. Unsure of who made the master cylinders.

It depends on which seals are fitted. Nitrile or buna-n. Nitrile uses dot4 and buna-n uses aero shell (the red transmission fluid stuff).

What color is it. You don’t want to mix the fluids. DOT5 is purple.

The fluid in it was Aeroshell 41; as a “get home” measure, I’ve emptied that and refilled with LHM as per the manual (mineral hydraulic oil).

Fingers crossed!

Aeroshell 41 is an aircraft spec mineral hydraulic oil.
