I have recently purchased a TR1 with a can air power unit which overall has been quite unreliable for the previous owner. I intend to fit a continental 0200 with crossfloe cylinders, any info or advice would be gratefully recieved,,, thanks Tom

Hi Tom,

I would suggest the Lycoming O-235 over the Continental O-200. The added power is very important. My TR-1 was powered by a 125hp high compression O-235 and I found the performance to be ok in climb but good in cruise. My guess is the O-200 would be ok in cruise but marginal in climb. But what works for you may be different.

My company (aeromomentum.com) offers new engines based on Suzuki that are dyno and flight proven that would work well in the TR-1.

O320 is the only way to go! Please don’t even consider 0200!

Thomas
The switch to the 0-200 is certainly going to be more reliable that the CAM , which i know has had its issues in your KIS over the years, since it was made way back in the 90's , But like others I would recommend going a bit bigger than the O-200, if you have the chance.
The KIS will likely be still under powered on Grass at MTOW, with 100HP. Having said that we had a 0-200 powered in the UK (G-OKPW) which operated for a number of years very successfully, (before the owner/ builder switched it out to a JABIRU 6) , The good news is it will be easy getting LAA approval, for the change from the CAM to the O-200.

Note : LAA has also approved the 0-235 Lyc , TCM IO-240, TCM O-240, and the JABIRU 6. (knowing the LAA, unless you want to do lots of paperwork , i would not recommend going with any other unit)
