Hi All,

Graham's fittings, aluminum pipes, andair fuel cock and andair gascolator before the pumps, fuel flow 130 liters per hour, only one pump running. Measured that with an open return line in a bucket. That information agreed with the fuel flow indication of the plane. Added a push button to switch off the return transducer. Now, during preflight it's easy to check what the raw throughput is. There was no noticeable difference with the return line connected to the top of the tank, using the vent tube. Some pics are at http://www.europaowners.org/kit600 However during the winter stop i will put the return-flow line near the top of the filler snake, because i would like to improve the tank vent for filling. At the moment it's difficult to fill the tank to the brim.

Jos Okhuijsen

And some other opinion on previous messges in this thread:
The andair mesh is 80 micron, not 120.
Placing the gascolator after the fuel pumps does not protect the fuel pumps and return valves from debris from the tank. There is some kind of mesh in the pump, and if it caches debris, it will be cluttered pretty soon. The gascolator is designed to do just that. IMHO it is not a good idea to put the pumps before the pumps and return valves. The dry head suction of the pump is more then then the lowest possible level in the tank. As a test i switched from an empty main to an almost empty reserve with only 2 liters, and it took 4 seconds to build fuel pressure back to normal. Before the carbs are filled and the engine is back to normal life however, takes another 2 seconds of missing heart beats.

tank breather needs to be at least 3/8 aluminum (to avoid static build
up) and best place is near the top of the snake. Is that where you have
it Jos?

Hi Graham,

You made it yourself, and supplied me with the materials remember ? Smile
I think it's smaller then 3/8. To resume: In the smaller top opening of the tank i have an adapter with a breather tube and a siphon tube for the long range tank. The breather part goes to the side of the top of the snake. An air vent tube is connected to the top of the snake, with a 5 way manifold that adds the sight tube, the long range tank vent and a return valve to the cockpit air.
That return valve should save my butt in case the vent tube opening to the outside world gets blocked by insects or ice. At the moment i have a T splitter in the pipe from the tank to the filler side, and the fuel return is connected there. All works. But i will give the fuel return line it's own top of the fuel snake entry, and do away with the t junction. That hopefully will improve the ease of fueling up.
