My first foray into the avionics shop to get my ADF
looked at cost me $3000, for an ADF!?!

How about $6,000 for a cargo door for a Cessna 404 that TWO of my overpaid
pilots let a line boy close for them "because it was raining" and that was 20
years ago. Yes oh Yes, I am done with general aviation. Anybody priced a G.A.
FAA approved spark plug lately? In fact, ultralights are getting pretty
expensive too. I may try to grow wings.

I loved my $140.00 door hinge for the 172. The thing is that General
Aviation, that is the certified variety is becoming more and more a niche
activity for the really wealthy, but we are really fortunate to live in a
time when homebuilts incorporate technologies and materials that make them
as strong or stronger than certified aircraft and the designers are as
qualified for such activities as are any at Cessna.

After a couple of annuals where I was charged much but received little I
realized that having and A & P doesn't necessarily mean anything and not
having one doesn't mean that someone is not an excellent airframe and
powerplant mechanic. So the only conclusion for me was to bail on certified
and find an excellent experimental.

My wife asked me what the Mark III X is going to run us on the way into town
and I told her to plan on around $40,000K total but I also pointed out that
a factory new J3 Cub is running $80,000.

About 2 years ago at EAA fly-in, I was asked by some bystander why a
172 cost some 180 LARGE. My answer was that it was made outa the
spare parts that are so overpriced.

Now, there's a thought. If a new 172 is $180,000, then one built from parts
would be........what ??...........$1/2 million ?? It boggles the mind.
