Fellow listers,

Having just got my wings aligned I'm looking at the forward fuel tank
support and its attachment to the fuselage.

I only have a 29/32 overlap which is smaller than the diagram implies - I
think they're using a smaller washer than the one provided.

Any ideas on a minimum edge distance would be appreciated.

Ralph

Ralph,
When you are building a 6 the plans show a plain hole through both parts
with bolt clamped down tight.
The latest update (and newer models) have a slotted hole on the F-696 and a
"loosely" tightened & safety wired bolt to hold the tank in place.
The idea is that if you crash and hit the wing...it won't rip open your fuel
tank at this point. Instead the bolt slides out of the slot and the vessel
is still sealed. Much safer.

With this in mind...there is no edge distance. The slot simply becomes a
support for the tank to rest on, not a rigid connection.
I have mine built this way and if you call Van's they will send you the
correct parts (for free or dirt cheap).

Email me if you want to see a picture of mine. Kbob at Cox dot net
