Ken, at Lycon, got tired of me calling 3 to 4 times a day and asking
about the 24 volt LASAR controller (which I've been waiting for for 3
months), so he gave me the number for his connection in Canada (which
distributes the LASAR ignition). I called Canada and talked to a guy
named Brad and heard an interesting story.
Apparently, the guy at Unison (in Florida) in charge of making sure all
of the test equipment (used in testing the LASAR) was certified by the
FAA, either quit or retired. The new guy discovered that the old guy
never complied with the yearly cerifications and, well, none of the
LASAR units sent out over the last couple of years were tested with
certified equipment.
The FAA shut down that whole division of Unison. There are a whole
bunch of LASAR controllers that are being recalled and recertified.
Plus, from what I understand, Unison can't get the components they need
to even make the LASAR controllers.
For the time being, I'm going to recommend installing regular mags and
leave the controller on order. It might take 6 months or more to get
the controller.
