Reposting since my original post failed to make it......

Fellow listers,

I'm trying to determine what the prop end of the crankshaft is supposed to look
like when it is set up for a constant speed prop.

Folks have written about plugs - but that doesn't tell me what to look for.
If it's plugged, should I only see the plug? If it's not plugged, what
does the inside look like?

FWIW, I'm not seeing 'just a plug' - I'm seeing stuff in there -
looks like a bar going across with a notch cut in to it...maybe to allow a tool
to get all the way in to the back.

Anyone have any drawings or photographs?

I know this is one that I don't want to have the wrong way...

Thanks,
Ralph Capen

Hi Ralph,

I converted my CS crankshaft to FP. There is a Lycoming Service Bulletin
that describes it and the parts (kit) you nee (sorry, can't recall the
number). Go to the Lyc 'site and do a search, you should find it.

The Lycoming S.L. that covers converting from constant speed to fixed pitch
is S.L 1435. This has a very good drawing to show how it should be both
ways.

All I can get to at the Lycoming site is the list of Service Instructions.

Any hints on how to drill down to the one (1435) and see it?

Ralph,

The Vans assembly manual has SI 1435 reproduced in the ENGINE AND PROPELLER INSTALLATION section. The Lycoming overhaul manual has some information in it also.

Hope this helps,

Thanks - I'll look in there too. Just thinking that I'll need to get stuff from Lycoming directly since they put out SB's that reference other documentation on a regular basis.
