RF Gurus,
What is this C-shaped gizmo in attached photo #1? Something to do with impedance matching??
Attached photo #2 show where it goes - inside the antenna connector of an Icom A210.

I've always assumed that your 1st guess is accurate; impedance matching by making the insulation gap capacitance similar in the joint to what it is in the coax. But...That's my assumption; I have no data to support the guess.
