One word of caution when doing ground runs. Be sure to safety all the pins that hold the wings in place.

One person just stuck the pins in the wings but didn't bother with the safety clips. During the engine run, the pin vibrated out of the main spar connection. This let the wing pivot down and back at the swivel connection which let the prop hit the trailing edge. Did a bunch of damage.

I am not familiar with your folded wing setup and do not understand what you are referring to that is 1' 8". Please elaborate. Post a photo if possible.

On the Firefly, for folded condition there is a support bracket that goes into a hole through the tail boom. This bracket has rods that stick out to the side and there is a whole in the wing with internal support. You slide the wing onto the bracket when folded. There is another bracket that goes in the rear spar that holds the wings together while on the support bracket. I usually run a bungee between these brackets just to make sure it doesn't bounce off while folded.

The first picture is the boom bracket. It is upside down on the floor. The vertical pin goes all the way through the tail boom.

I think that. is going to be my plan: unfold the wings, secure it to something substantial, and then start ups and run till operating temps. that should give me a pretty good feeling for proper start up and what to watch for.

I don't have any of the building manuals, curious what size pin is suppose to be used for securing the folded wing to the back of the boom. 1'8" seems slightly too big and 5/16" seems way too small.
