I know this is an old topic, but with my vintage 90’s 912S having had it’s mounts replaced with new and softer ones, I am now experiencing kickback an want to preserve my starter sprag.

I see that the conair aftermarket module is still available. Are there any other “reasonably” priced options (with lower shipping leadtime for a Canuck)?

Cheers and thx!
Pete

Pete,

You might want to order a set of ignition modules from Ignitech. You can check them out here:

https://www.ignitech.cz/en/vyrobky/bikes/rotax/rotax%20912%20and%20914/rotax%20912%20and%20914.htm

I only paid $360 US for a pair with shipping.

The company is in the Czech Republic.

Sure made a difference on starting my late 90's 912 ULS.

Thx for the suggestion and pirep Bill,

Are you seeing misfires above 5000rpm (as per their bulletin)? Do you have an estimate how many watts it uses?

Thx!

Pete,

I only had the modules long enough to test cranking and static testing (approx. 5000 RPM's and haven't noticed any issues.
The misfire above 5000 RPM's was mentioned on their website and is supposedly fixed.

The modules can be powered from the engine just like the stock Rotax modules and can also be powered directly from your 12v supply. Pull up their instructions on the DCCDIP2 module. It shows fusing each module with a 3 amp fuse. Don't know how much current it draws but it's not a lot.

If you Google "reviews" on the modules they all are favorable.

Hope this helps.

Bill

My Ignitec order is in..now fingers cross that shipping is painless and quick LOL
$362USD for two including shipping, with custom length harnesses for remote mounting, and a programming cable.
https://www.ignitech.cz/en/vyrobky/bikes/rotax/rotax%20912%20and%20914/rotax%20912%20and%20914.htm
On paper these look fantastic. And very inexpensive. Time will tell their reliability.
Here is their tech answer wrt advance:
“ Standard original system start at 4° BTDC (pickup at end of lobe) and jump to 26° BTDC (pickup at begin of lobe) at 600-800 RPM.
Quote:

Original system with additional "soft start" system start also at 4°, but it keep this starting advance 10 s regardless of engine speed.
Original system with new rotor start at 3° ATDC (pickup at end of lobe). See old and new rotor on photo in attachment.
See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWY_j3-hHcM

Our system is different. It not only "jump" from 4° to 26°, but is increase advance smoothly according advance curve preselected in setting software.
Next function for better start is value "Lower advance by start %" in software. This function will delay advance according value. When value will be 0 - it will not delay advance. If value will be 100 - it will delay advance with angle of pulse lobe.
If value will be 50 - it will delay advance with angle half of pulse lobe.
Standardly we use value 20. Pulse lobe angle is 26°-4°=22°, so that delay will be 22x0.2=4.4°. This is little bit ATDC. This delay is realised only up to 500 RPM.
If you want increase delay - increase this value.

Cheers,PeteZ
