Hi folks,

I discovered a missing weld bead ‘nickel’ on my classic exhaust which is obviously leaking through the hole. I plan on tig welding it, but need to know what alloy it is. Anyone know?

Many thanks,
Pete

Pete,

Do a search on Matronics Europa for "exhaust AND weld" or "exhaust AND alloy" and you'll get some ideas. Perhaps early Classic exhaust were mild steel. Later ones stainless. The alloy may be 309 and that is supposedly weldable with 308 rod.

I suggest you contact CKT Engineering (they advertise in The Europa Flyer) and get their input. They have manufactured exhaust for Europa.

Pete,
I just worked on a Classic exhaust of one of the Earliest mono's with the classic exhaust. It is stainless. N96EG is now owned by Creighton Smith. We cut off the third leg and through a bit of trial and error replaced that with a 2 inch tube to clear the gear leg and still fit the trailer. Nice job. 507 type stainless. My welder had no problems tigging the new tube in.

I got the idea about the problem you are facing about your exhaust as I faced the same problem some time ago. I contacted some dissertation writing services which help me find the welding material for specific materials.
