I have just been enjoying catching up on the list after a very busy work
period. It can't be said too often just what a great resource is this list.
As an occasional seeker of information I just wanted to
let the list know that OE-UMJ is ready to fly, and in fact has had a permit
to fly for a few weeks now. Why isn't it in the air? Well the airfield is
covered in a foot of snow and the temperatures in Central Europe refuse to
budge above 0. But come the thaw and test pilot being available on a good
day it will fly. We have a few bureaucratic requirments which may not apply
elsewhere. The pilot has to have completed a "test pilots course." Not too
troublesome but only held once a year so plan ahead. Test pilot must wear a
military helmet and parachute so a bit more wiring required to connect the
headphones to the military helmet. And so on. But we, (the owner and me the
helper and future pilot) have taxied it and it behaves well on the ground. I
have about 400 hours on tail draggers so the temptation to go flying was
enormous. The lack of visibility over the nose was also a bit of a surprise
- worse than my Auster. But I doubt the plane will hold any major
surprises. So soon, come the thaw, I hope to post some news and photos.
Thanks again to all the listers.
