Hi!  I bought a carburetor and had it rebuilt. The studs on it are one inch long 


under the carb and they are not screwed in far into the carb.. (see pictures). I 


am trying to remove them and I cannot.... I tried heating a stud, using two 

nuts squeezed together, using a split nut.....


How can I remove those studs?  Any idea?

Heat the casting, not the stud.  The double nut method is very effective,

but this is the gold plated solution:

You have to have the size for your stud.  Try e-Bay.

Re-install the studs with the same tool or the double nut method but use

anti-seize compound.

It looks to me like the threads into the carb body are an interference fit. removing them and reinstalling them too many times (or even at all) may not be recommended. 



Structurally it looks like they are in far enough to properly secure the carb. Is there an interference problem with them not being threaded in all the way? Or are they the wrong length for your application? If not I would leave them and run it.

 



If so the methods described by evryone should work. Double nut and heating the case around the stud. 

Most stud extractors I have seen/used can damage the stud, especially the threads where they grab it. If you use one you may need to replace the studs. Of course if they are the wrong size it may be your intent.

try the double nut trick again.



tighten the 2 nuts against each other, hard, put a washer in between if you like.

Then put wrench in INSIDE ( case side ) nut & screw stud out.

You will easily get enough grip to snap the stud off, without nuts slipping !



if you think an open end wrench will just round off the inside nut, trap an closed end wrench under the washer on assembly.
