I know that some 701s have gas springs to hold the doors up and open (the
"Lizard" plane for one). Does anyone have any detailed information like
photos, geometry, strength of spring to use, pluses and minuses?

Craig,

the CZAW made 701s used gas door springs and they work really nicely.
There is even a -cz version of the ZAC drawing for this installation.
If you want I can send some photos and more detailed part information.

Craig.

Go to www.ch701.com and look under BUILDERS PICTURES, you will see some
pictures and a part number of the gas spring I used.

Got them, thanks!

It appears that you have flat doors while I have bubble doors so I'll have
somewhat different geometry.

What little I saw of your plane looks very nice, BTW.
