Wilson,
We took off at night from East Troy, Wisc. in an 0-300 powered C170, an intake valve stuck open
and the engine vibrated so badly that you could not read the instruments or maintain altitude.
We did a 180 and wheel landed downwind on the runway we took off from..heavy braking with the tail up high.
Don't think we could have done that with tricycle gear, on the other hand i have nosed over 3 other taildraggers.
